I'm Lost.

I was just thinking,

How do you take so much information and pack it into a creative page that explains everything you need to know to understand my idea?

this is by far the hardest bit of my fmp so far,

To take so much research, techniques, ideas and personal views and placing them into a creative, vibrent good looking piece of work but to still use all of those techiques, I suppose Video could be one way but then how do i implament my idea into the other forms needed, for example a website?

In all onesty my brain is lost and it would help me a large amount if you could comment any possible ideas,

I understand that we all look at this fmp as a challange against each other, to be better then everyone ealse, so i am going to take a rough guess and say almost no-body will comment on this post but it's worth a try,

Thanks.

Pushed Forward.

Basiclly i have been thinking about everything i have mentioned and the amount of work included,

I have taken all aspects of my research and filtered out the non important pieces and started to puzzel all other aspects together creating a base idea wich i belive to be of a strong structure,

My Findings.

After my brainstorming session, well more like a quiet think i have came up with the idea of future advertisment using persuasive techniques and influential speech. some of you will be thinking at this point, "Wasnt that his first idea?", I can tell you that you are partly correct,

Yes my idea was based around that subject but was more open, my idea has now started to focus more on perception of images by the subject, in normall language I have cut the amount of work needed in half meaning that i can spend more time on others parts of my fmp to make them of a higher standerd. and that i am aiming more on how people think about what they are looking at or hearing.

This will still included alot of work but i feel that designing my fmp in this manner will help me and will lead on to a very intresting reasearch project during and after the Final Major Project.

Emotion

After having watching a video on youtube, i found myself sat there laughing.

i started to think about emotions and how people can learn to change others emotion, simple change in colours and noise value.

showing somebody an image of a horrible scene may make a person feel a mix of emotions, anger, saddness.
and showing somebody a video of a child laughing may bring on a happy feeling,

So how can i use this to benafit myself and my fmp,
im not sure yet, but after thinking about my fmp for a long time i now know that it is not about changing people in general, it's about changing a person thoughts, felling and mind to a subject i want them to think about and have feelings for,
Some people would question if changing a person's mind without them knowing is against human rights, but then if you did know i was doing it, it would go against every other post on this blog,

You and others need to look at it in the way of, i am not so much changing a person's mind, all i am simplly doing is influenceing diffrent thoughts, this way we do not have to force a subject audience to think what we want, all we have to do is make a link between what they are watching or hearing to the thoughts related in there head,

This is a very confussing subject and most people at this point will not understand my idea, but as we get closer to our FMP's im sure that most of you will learn more in depth about my idea and start to understand it at a higher level.

Cant Keep Up

For my (FMP) idea i fear that i have bitten off more then i can chew.

The amount of research i have started doing into using those techniques chosen in the real world is amazing, i have scanned book's, watched TV, looked at articles, looked on forums.

I Feel like i have done a years worth of research in two days, and i have only just scratched the surface, people have studied this 'art' if you wish, for hundreds of years, Some people have been learning since they were toddlers, those people are now in the range of 20 - 40 years old, and still haven't sussed it out, how am i going to cope in 6 months?

I am not going to let it stop me though, i have just watched a programme on 'National Geo' on Sky television, It was to do with the human camera,

A normal human, brought up normally, had a normal childhood,

Yet he can remember every image his eyes have seen over the past 24hours, it got me thinking,
If this man can remember every object he has looked at, or person for that matter, would something like subliminal messages, or pwa work on him?

If it does would it be harder to influence that person using pwa, or easier?

The reason I've come to say this is that looking into what i want to do for my (FMP) i am going to need to know what type of people are going to be there, what age groups and what culture, as every person is brought up in a different manner therefore slightly changing the way in which they think.

Why So Much?

I had thought of it the other day sat in college when raj was talking to us,
i had noticed that when he had turned around to look at the board, he would carry on turning the same way to look at the mac, technically a circle,

This got me thinking about the link between our environment and people actions towards that environment, for example take a rave. A light show at a rave normally consists of strobes, laser's and smoke machines, but think,

Most light show lasers only move in two directions, up and down, when people rave it is normally just jumping up and down. can we prove this has a link, no we cant. look at more examples where you will start to see the same thing,
If you turn up to a disco with a partner and a slow song comes on, you go for a dance, why is it always you find yourself turning in one direction?, could it be a link between a disco light turning in a circular motion, or is this just a fluke, at the moment i am not sure but i think it is something i will take on board very strongly and look into in allot more depth.

We know that people's thoughts are effected by there current enviroment, example a blue colour wall makes you feel cold, also it depends on what they can hear or see.

I want to try something,
you will need two people to do this

Sit in a silent room opisite the other person,
one person must clench there hands together like they are saying a praye,
interlock you fingers, but point only your two closest fingers outwoods,
keep all your other fingers together though, inc your thumbs.

This is were we need the other person,
So far there should be a person sat directly oppisite you with there hands locked together,
it is your job to relax them as much as possible, make sure there feet are flat on the floor, they are sat up straight, there is no noise and it is not to warm, nore cold.

It is important that you keep eye contact but try not to stare, this will make your subject feel uneasy,
just infront of them so they can see clearly i want you to take your finger and start to wave it in a circular motion at a steady rate, rember to keep eye contact and calm,

The subject that this is beeing tested on, after about 1 min 30 should start to feel there two fingers pulling towards each other, the harder they try to stop them the quicker it will happen.

It would be very much appreciated if you could tell me what the result was if you chose to test this.

How Does It Work?

PWA,

Here's how it works,

(it is very important when doing this to try and speak fluidly and quite quick, try to remain calm and act normal)

You can ask any person to write down what they might want for there birthday, ask them to write it down and remember it strongly inside there head,
by saying.

You have been given a present,
It's in a big box, it may be a small present in a big box or a big present in a big box. try not to get to excited.
When you walk into a shop and you see something you know you have to have, what is that feeling like?

(ask them to explain it for you)

Let me explain how i bike gifts for people, or presents, and this is the best way to handle bar none, that would be the problem of you know what to saddle for when your going to buy gifts for someone who's a little difficult to but gifts for,

Now what i do is rather then recycle the same two tyred bottles of wine, or a box of chocolates that are no fun to receive, i go out and i buy anything, and make them fall in love with it, bike creating a strong feeling of desire for that object, does that make sense?

if it works they get all sort of pumped up, they get that feeling, that positivity, they beam excitement for it, and it's a win win thing because they get something they love and i get to save money,
what you need to understand about this is that the feeling can be so extreme it can replace the memory of what they actually want, before they may have said i want x, like a really nice car, a BM or and xbox, something like that something they really wanted, but now they want what i got them, does that make sense?...
So you can have anything you like,

What is your Chosen birthday present?

now after this 43% of people should say a bmx bike, no matter what they actually wanted.

Getting this to work,
ideally you should try to place your subject where you can have a massive impact, just by them being human and observing there environment, people look at everything, for example the average human within there lifetime will see 16,819,200,000 images.
(based on an average of 80 years life span)

so you should try and place objects in the room that resemble what your chosen object is,
in this case, a 'BMX Bike'
(eg. a round coffee table, a circle painting on the wall, even if you have to wear round glasses)

all these object are automatically noticed by your subject, either subconsciously or consciously, I highly doubt that this experiment would work if the subject knows what is going on.

To the speech!!

when you meet this person you need to try and make them feel as relaxed as possible,
place there hand flat on the table, keep the room temp at about 18 degrees, and it is very important also that you keep eye contact with your subject.

what you have said to the person is basically irrelevant except a few words and letter's i shall point out to you,
the important words or letters will be marked in red,

"You have been given a present,
It's in a big box, it may be a small present in a big box or a big present in a big box. try not to get to excited.
When you walk into a shop and you see something you know you have to have, what is that feeling like?

(ask them to explain it for you)

So you can have anything you like,

What is your Chosen birthday present?"

And that is PWA.

Subliminal?

A subliminal message is one that passes below the threshold of consciousness and persuades you to act upon it. The term was coined by marketing man James Vicary in 1957 when he claimed that subliminal, flash frame, advertising messages saying 'Thirsty? Drink Coca Cola' and 'Hungry? Eat Popcorn' inserted into a movie caused a dramatic rise in purchases at the snack kiosk. It was an ad man's dream. A way of instantly turning passive viewers into active consumers.

Vicary's advertising experiment came to light in 1957 in Vance Packard's best-selling book The Hidden Persuaders. Packard wrote about a series of subliminal projection experiments that had taken place in a New Jersey cinema but was unable to verify the source. James Vicary, who was cited in the book about other research, later stepped forward to take credit for them. His claims created a sensation.

With James Vicary in the driving seat many people jumped aboard the subliminal bandwagon. Advertisers saw it as a way to influence consumers. Radio stations toyed with the idea of subliminal audio as a way of incorporating traffic, weather and safety messages into broadcasts. Politicians feared it could be misused for political ends. Long Island tabloid Newsday pronounced it 'the most alarming invention since the atomic bomb.' And the L.A. Times declared that James Vicary was 'as evil as Nazi war criminals, and should be shot.' One year after the publication of The Hidden Persuaders subliminal advertising was banned from television in both the UK and USA. It was deemed too dangerous.
In fact there is great doubt that Vicary ever conducted any such experiments. Attempts by other researchers to duplicate Vicary's success have all failed. Even Vicary's attempt in 1958 to persuade viewers to call a TV station after being subjected to subliminal messages did not work. His Subliminal Projection Company went out of business the same year.
In 1962 Vicary confessed to Advertising Age magazine that his original claims were a marketing gimmick designed to promote his company. Ironically this is one message that the public seem to have missed and belief in the persuasive nature of subliminal advertising is widespread.
These are a mix of articles found all over the web. Search - Subliminal Messages.

Why Do Those People Matter?

The reason I have mentiond those two people, 'David Blaine', 'Derren Brown' is i am intending to take a small fraction of those techniques used, and try to implament myself into a part of My Final Major Project,
I am not sure if the idea i have in my head will have a large enough effect,

I'm sure it will with alot of research though.

The idea i am starting to devlope is Future Advertisment Using Psychology, or FOAM (Future of Advertising Media).

They are both based around advertisment as i think it will be a very intresting project to do, and alot of directions i can take it in.
Think, your stood whatching a video you think nothing off, normally the subject matter would not intrest you at all..
But yet you cant seem to stop whatching, you find yourself thinking more deeply, and something you would not have understood when you walked in, you now understand perfectly but you dont know why.

To do this will not be easy, nore will it be a quick process,
i have started looking into Subliminal messaging and Pwa, (Perception Without Awareness),
If any one has seen 'Derren Brown - How to Control The Nation' they will know about these techniques,

What is 'Pwa'?

Perception without awareness is the implanting of an idea without the subject being aware of it. An everyday example of this priming in action is when someone whistles a tune and then sometime later you start to whistle the same tune. A third party observing the two of you would see exactly what happened. But you remain oblivious to the way the tune entered your mind. You might not even remember your friend whistling it first.

In 1999 Adrian North, David Hargreaves and Jennifer Mckendrick of the University of Leicester staged a psychology experiment in a wine shop. They found that when French music was played in the shop 77% of the wine sold that day was French. When German music was played 73% of the wine sold on that day was German. The nationality of the music was changed on alternate days over a two week period. When questioned after their purchases 86% of the customers said categorically that the music did not affect their choice.

In a later experiment Dr North showed that music could also be used to significantly to prime the sense of taste. In this situation a wine tasting was held against a background of different types of music. Wine tasted against a background of powerful and heavy music was described as heavy. At the other extreme, wine tasted against a background of soft mellow music was described as mellow. The subject's perception of taste had been unknowingly altered by the music they heard.
The extent to which people can be primed by the words they read has been shown by several experiments, notably one by Bargh, Chen and Burrows in 1996. Subjects studied sets of words and unscrambled them to make sentences. Half of the subjects had sentences with many words that related to stereotypes of old age: slow, wrinkled, feeble etc. The other subjects had neutral words. When they completed their scrambled sentence test walked down a corridor to deliver their paper. The subjects primed with words relating to old age, walked far slower along the corridor than their colleagues as if they had taken on an aspect of the words they were reading.

My General Ideas So Far

Having beeing told that we need to start a large amount of research for our Final Major Projects (FMP's), I started looking into physcological effects that advertisment has on the chosen target audience.

I am sure that people have heard of 'David Blaine' and also 'Derren Brown' both magicians and both illusionist's, some of the techniques they have learnt and use as in there career's can be taken and added into many different forms of advertisment. Is this were advertisment will move onto in the future?
In my opinion, yes it is

I will post up some videos from youtube showing you them if you have not seen any of there programms,

1. David Blaine - Street Magic.
2.Derren Brown - How to Control The Nation.
